New Features

  • Misc School Counts - This feature is available in Newton versions 10.0, 10.1, and 10.5.
    This feature will allow Districts to track the number of meals they are serving. It has been specifically set up to assist with the distribution of Emergency Meals.

Newton 10.0.9 - January 17, 2020

Release Summary

The goal of this release was to address an issue with missing transaction communication.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug in the Handle Online Payment Exceptions screen that was causing data corruption.

Newton 10.0.8 - November 26, 2019

Release Summary

The goal of this release was to address an issue with saving a claim and some schools not displaying on the Combines Sales & Participation report.
The following modifications were made since version 10.0.7.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that prevented saving a claim when a CEP school had associated reduced enrollment counts.

  • Fixed a bug that was disallowing data to generate when a la carte sales for a meal did not exist during a given time period at a Site.

Newton 10.0.7 - October 29, 2019

Release Summary

The goal of this release was to ready the system for the upcoming DevExpress upgrade to support upcoming features and address a defect in the (Before Posting) Double Card Usage report.
The following enhancements and modifications were made since version 10.0.6.

Enhancements

  • Outdated Workstation Report (.NET Framework 4.5.2) - The report displays any workstation running versions lower than .NET Framework 4.5.2.

  • Fixed a bug that was displaying all double card usages under one student record when running the Before Posting report.

  • Fixed a bug that was causing an error when loading the local database and the Newton POS local database when a Special Diet was created and later deleted.

  • Fixed a bug that was causing errors when loading the Supervisor Alerts dashboard for schools with no associated cafeterias.

  • Changed the way calls are conducted when utilizing Active Directory in the Role Importer.

  • Fixed a bug causing an alert error when re-assigning a satellite school to a different primary school and reopening a past day for the new primary school.

Newton 10.0.0 - May 28, 2019

Release Summary

The goal of this release was to end support for .NET 4.0 Framework, add the ability to email letters, include email addresses in the MySchoolBucks upload, honor “claim-at” rules in the Federal Edit Check, provide an Outdated Workstation Report, and improve system functionality as well as address various defects.

The following enhancements and modifications were made since version 9.5.1:

Note: .NET 4.5 Framework or higher is required. Please note that Newton 10.0.x will be the absolute last version of the program that will function with .NET 4.0 Framework.  Any workstations running outdated framework once 10.1+ is pulled into your District will cease to function. Please review our system requirements here.

Note: DataCenter has also been updated to Enable Debug by Default and Include Log Files by default.

New Features

  • Email Letters - Users now have the ability to email letters out of Newton as well as create a default email letter template. Letters batches are queued for delivery via a scheduled job. Invalid email addresses are flagged (Do not email) in the Customer record. The next time a letter is generated for a customer with an invalid email address, the letter will be sent to print. Flags may be enabled or disabled manually.

    SMTP must be established and the associated user must have an email address in the system.

    The Cafeteria Manager may select one of three delivery methods: Print All, Email for recipient who can be emailed, Print for recipients who cannot be emailed

    Do Not Email is automatically flagged for invalid email addresses once a scheduled job has run. Manual enabling/disabling of Do Not Email is available

  • MySchoolBucks Email Address - During the upload process, email addresses are sent to MSB to support balance email notifications
  • .NET 4.0 Warning Message - The system will provide a warning message to alert the user the current system is running .NET 4.0 Framework (unsupported). The system will need to be updated to .NET 4.5 Framework or higher. Once a District has pulled 10.1+, any workstation running .NET 4.0 Framework will cease to function

  • Outdated Workstation Report - The Outdated Workstation Report allows your IT department to identify workstations running outdated/unsupported systems and system components. In the 10.0 version, the Outdated Workstation Report will target systems running outdated versions of .NET Framework. .Net 4.5 or higher is required. Once a District has pulled 10.1+, any workstation running .NET 4.0 Framework will cease to function

Enhancements

  • Federal Edit Check - The Federal Edit Check has been updated to align with “claim-at rules” when a site is set to claim at a site other than “this school”.

  • Add student from another school (Subscribe) - The system has been updated to split the Add Student Subscription between Guest Subscription (true) and Regular Subscription (false) to resolve issues where a CEP students eats at a non-CEP site at the incorrect subscription status.

  • New Customer: Permanent Category - When adding a new customer to the system, the default category is now “invalid” and a category must be applied prior to saving. This ensures that new customers are not automatically assigned the category of Paying Student by default.
  • Enable Debug by Default - In order to assist in troubleshooting issues, log config files are automatically set to debug and the default file size increased to 20MB
  • Simplified DataCenter Sync -  DataCenter Sync has been simplified to improve performance on SQL Servers and MCS Cloud instances.

    As Full DataCenter syncs should rarely occur, the functionality and location have changed. Once a Forced Full DataCenter Sync has occurred, the option will reset to disabled.

Fixes

  • Application Freeze - Fixed a bug that was freezing the program when attempting to cancel an interactive scheduled job
  • Double Card Usage Report - Fixed a bug in the Double Card Usage report which was incorrectly displaying one customer’s name and a different customer’s transactions
  • Role Importer - Fixed a bug that was incorrectly importing and matching against Cafeteria Roles and Database Roles
  • Item Detail Report - Fixed a bug that was incorrectly pulling legacy meal components for OVS
  • Vendovation Vending Time - Fixed a bug that was incorrectly reporting vending times.
