Nutrient Standards Analysis

The Nutrient Standards Analysis tool is a useful way to review the menu plans at schools for their nutritional information.

Select a site and a range of dates to search for menu plans. You can specify which meals you want to search for, or leave them all checked to review all meals from that date range. You can also select a specific grade or range of grades from the Grade Range drop-down menus. Click Search when you are done.

A list of meals matching your search criteria appears. Select Planned if the menus being analyzed have not been prepared or served yet. Select Prepared (Offered) to analyze the nutrients in the food offered to students during the meal period. Select Served to analyze the nutrients of the food actually served during those meals. Your selection will affect the number used in the Feeding Figure field in the Nutrient Standards analysis.

Select a single meal from the list below to activate the Nutrient Standards button. Select a grade range from the Nutrients Standards drop-down list and select the Nutrient Standards button.

The link at the bottom of the analysis will show you any ingredients that are missing information, if any.

The nutrient standards screen shows information about the meal plan by grade range at the top of the screen with the combined nutritional information for any meals you selected below. Please note that a Nutrient Standards analysis made for fewer than 3 consecutive days will not compare the nutrients with weekly nutrient standards. There are a few things to be aware of as you read this analysis:

  • Nutrient standards for sodium, which can be toggled to represent 2014 or 2017 target requirements.
  • Saturated Fat is included within Total Fat.
  • Nutrients marked with an asterisk ( * ) mean that nutrient information for that nutrient is not available in at least one item in that recipe.
  • By default, the report includes only calories, sodium, and saturated fat. You can click the Display additional nutrients check box to view information about other nutrients.
  • Nutrients marked with "Missing" mean that the nutrient information is not available for any ingredients in that recipe.
  • Nutrient values highlighted in pink fall outside of acceptable Nutrient Standard range. The amount a nutrient is above or below the Nutrient Standard is indicated in the Short/Over By column.

The link at the bottom of the standards will show you any ingredients that are missing information, if any. Click Print to print a hard copy of the analysis, or click the red X or Close to close it.
