Item Category Groups

Every item belongs to an inventory category with items that are related in some way. The Inventory Categories page allows you to search for, view, add, edit or delete inventory categories. Items can be categorized into several groups based on the business process that uses the item.

Inventory categories include the primary receiving bin, storage bin, and other instructions about how the item is inventoried, ordered, and stored.

For example, cake and ice cream are both desserts; however, they would need to be assigned to separate categories because they have different storage needs. Milk and butter are both dairy products, but would need to be in separate categories if milk can be ordered by sites without central office approval while butter requires Central Office approval.
