The Serving Line Instant Messenger allows instant communication for site users (site supervisor, line operators, feeder school users). The instant messenger can be used from the Site Supervisor and Line Operator machines.

Instant messaging occurs in real-time only. If a user if offline, the instant messages will not appear when the user logs on.

 

Site Supervisor

Step 1: From the Point-of-Sale tab, locate Serving-Line Chat.

Step 2: Click the Say button to begin a query of all available users who are currently logged in and attached to the site location.

Step 3: Choose a selected user or Broadcast/Everyone to send a message to everyone attached to the site location. The Broadcast/Everyone option is an ideal tool to covey important messages quickly.  Then, click Ok.

Step 4: Enter your message in the box and click Ok.


Line Operator


Instant messaging can occur at any point during normal POS line operations and during alerts (such as allergy alerts).

Step 1: Click on the Chat   button located in the lower, right-hand corner of your screen.

Step 2: Click the Say button to begin a query of all available users who are currently logged in and attached to the site location.

Step 3: Choose a selected user or Send to Everyone attached to the site location. The Send to Everyone option is an ideal tool to covey important messages quickly. Then, click Ok.

Step 4: The on-screen keyboard instantly appears allowing you to type the message by using the keyboard, mouse, or touch screen. Click Ok to send the message.



Receiving & Responding to Instant Messages

Step 1: Click on the Message Alert or the Chat button.

Site supervisors receive a message through Windows alerts at the bottom of the screen.

 

Line operators are alerted to new instant messages through the color changing blink of the Chat button.

 

 

Step 2: Click the Reply button to respond to messages received. Enter your reply and click Ok to send the message.


 

The entirety of the conversation remains in the Chat window. Those participating in the conversation are identified and time stamps are displayed.


Disabling the Instant Messenger

The ability to disable the Instant Messenger from Line Operators can be accomplished through permission settings.

 

Step 1: From the Administration and Maintenance tab, locate Permission and select Cafeteria Permissions.

Step 2: In the (POS) Send an instant message from the serving line row, locate the Line Operator column. Click in the cell to change the permission to Deny. Then, click Ok to save changes.
