Configuring the Scanner

The following instructions will assist you with setting up the Socket Mobile Bluetooth Scanner for use with the Edison Menus & Inventory Software.  Barcode scanning can be utilized for conducting Physical Inventory as well as Receiving.

To begin,  you must first configure the barcode scanner to the appropriate settings by scanning the following barcodes in the order listed.  

Factory Reset

If you make an error in the order of programming the scanner, you may perform a factory reset and begin the process again.

Application Mode (SPP)

Changes the scanner to Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) mode.

Suffix - Carriage Return (Default)

Configures the scanner to add a carriage return after decoded data.

Pairing the Scanner via Bluetooth

You will need to pair your scanner to your computer via the built-in Bluetooth Manager.  This may vary depending on the computer you are using and the version of windows.  Please refer to the computer’s user guide for assistance pairing the device.

Once the device is paired, you will need to locate the COM Port # that the device is using.  This can be found via the “Device Manager” on your machine. Expand COM Ports and identify the COM Port the scanner is using.

Identifying the Correct Port

Depending upon your system, multiple Bluetooth Devices may appear under Ports once the above barcodes have been scanned. You may need to try various Ports in Step 4 to locate the correct one. As computers may vary, the correct Port for one machine may or may not be the correct port for another machine.




Edison Setup

In order for the scanner to work with Edison, you must setup the device.

  1. From the Admin & Maintenance tab, click on Advanced Setup. Then, select Barcode Reader Configurations.

  2. Click Add New.

  3. Establish barcode reader configurations. Then, click Setup Device.

    1. Description – Enter a description for the barcode device.

    2. Device – Leave as default (Generic RS-232).

  4. Port name – Enter in the COM Port number that you identified in Device Manager. Leave default settings selected. Then, click Ok.

  5. Click Save Changes.

  6. Test the device.  Click the test button and scan any barcode.  A successful test will display a line for Barcode Read with the correct barcode number as displayed below the barcode on the item.


Add Barcode Scanning to User Profile

  1. From the Edison icon button, select the My Profile option.  Then, click Barcode Scanner.

  2. Select the barcode reader configuration to use on the current machine. Then, click OK.
